Hello Queer Readers
In 2020, author Douglas Stuart shot to international literary acclaim when he won the prestigious Booker Prize for his debut novel Shuggie Bain.
This month, we’re reading Stuart’s second novel Young Mungo. Just like Shuggie Bain, Young Mungo explores themes of gender, poverty and addiction in working class Glasgow. Often confronting, always immensely readable, I found this book a cracker of a read.
And what a beautiful book cover! Called The Cock (Kiss), Wolfgang Tillmans’ 2002 photograph of two men kissing in London club The Ghetto has survived a homophobic attack and been used as a symbol of defiance and celebration by the LGBTQIA+ community for over 20 years!
I look forward to seeing you all, upstairs at the Glebe Hotel, on Wednesday 4 October.
Please book online and remember to support The Bookstore, Darlinghurst if you’re after a printed copy of this book.
